Volkswagen have set pulses racing with the release of a concept sketch for their next generation Transporter model the T6.

This will be the sixth-generation of vehicle released as part of the Transporter range and is looking set to follow in the footsteps of it's predecessor the Transporter T5.

Paying homage to it's heritage this new vehicle is looking to be an evolutionary release rather than evolutionary. The teaser sketch released by Volkswagen shows the rear profile of the vehicle and reveals that the T6 will be adopting the 'family look' that the previous generations have sported.

 Volkswagen Transporter T6 teaser sketch

The Transporter line dates back over half a century to the 1950's when the first generation T1 was released, since then over 11 million vehicles from the Transporter line have been sold worldwide making the Transporters some of the best-selling and well known light commercial vehicles on the market.

Towards the end of last year Volkswagen released images of their VW Tristar concept vehicle, interestingly there are similarities between the Tristar and this new T6 teaser image.

Showing off the well known sharp lines and neatly-designed tail lights that Volkswagen have become known for, the teaser sketch is showing some of the same styling that we loved from the Tristar.

Even though this is the sixth installment into this range Volkswagen has stated that, "getting the job done efficiently and reliably" is at the core of their Transporter range and this ethos will continue into the T6.

The vehicle is expected to be unveiled in full on the 15th April 2015 with a release date further on in the year. We'll have more information for this new vehicle once it is released.

Mercedes-Benz have launched a new Sport variant to their popular small panel van the Citan.

This new model is currently only available to the UK market and offers a higher specification than the standard Citan.

According to Mercedes-Benz the new sporty version is a cost-effective way of standing out from the crowd and going down the route of owning a premium vehicle.

The Citan Sport has a choice of six metallic paint colours, colour coded wing mirrors, bumpers, 16-inch alloys, chrome trim on the grille, sidebars and a tailgate plus daytime running lights.

That’s just what’s on the outside, the interior also has the addition of a leather trimmed steering wheel, sports badges on the floor mats plus air conditioning.

There is a choice of either 89bhp (109CDi) or 109bhp (111CDi) being offered with only the long wheelbase version of the Citan available.

Another addition to the new Citan Sport is the inclusion of three-year unlimited mileage warranty MobiloVan UK as standard. Mercedes-Benz own Service24 is also included in the package and is the brands own roadside assistance service.

Volkswagen have released details for their fourth-generation Caddy light commercial vehicle due for release in mid-2015.

With a slightly updated look, the inclusions of Euro 6 compliant engines and new driver assistance system this is looking set to become the best Caddy yet.

Volkswagen has said that this new vehicle will build on the successes of its predecessor the third-generation Caddy, a vehicle that sold over 1.5 million units during its eleven year lifespan.

The alterations to the vehicles exterior are minimal, revised front and rear bumpers, a redesigned tailgate, new head and tail lights as well as new smooth side panels.

The changes to the interior are immediately more noticeable with a new dashboard, a flat bottomed steering wheel and new infotainment and navigation systems.

Another new addition is the inclusion of an EU6 compliant engine and is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel unit which is available in three power outputs of 74bhp, 101bhp and 148bhp.

There have been several high level safety features included in this new generation Caddy, all designed to improve safety and add comfort for the driver and any additional passengers.

Hans-Joachim Rothenpieler, Member of the Board for Technical Development of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has said, “To achieve this, we have incorporated a large number of driver assistance systems, which are unmatched in the urban delivery van segment”.

One of these new additions is ‘Front Assist’ surroundings monitoring system which also includes ‘City Emergency Braking’. If the driver is travelling at speeds of 30 km/h (19 mph) or less, the system automatically applies the brakes if the river has failed to see an obstacle, thus helping to prevent any collisions.

Another safety feature is the award winning Multi-collision Brake System and best of all it is included as standard on the new Caddy. Approximately 22 per cent of all accidents are collisions with more than one vehicle. The Multi-collision Brake System automatically initiates braking if the driver is no longer able to take action.

This new addition is expected for a UK release later on in the year. UK specifications and pricing have not yet been announced.

Towards the end of 2014 it was becoming apparent that van sales were growing in strength. This is a trend that has continued on through the new year with figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders (SMMT) showing 22,049 new van registrations in January alone.

SMMT Chief Executive Mike Hawes has said, “The truck market posted a strong return to form in January. Changes to Euro Standards and Type Approval Regulations in 2014 affected demand last year, and now we are starting to see a return to business as usual”.

He later went on to add, “The number of vans registered this month has once again increased, reflecting raised levels of business confidence and demand for a range of efficient, well equipped models. Successes in both markets have seen the total commercial vehicle market grow significantly for a ninth consecutive month.”

Once again Ford have continued to dominate the van sector with it's best selling Transit registering 6,181 vehicles in January - increasing it's market share to 28 per cent, up from the 26.8 per cent in January 2014.

This is followed by Volkswagen and Peugot who hold 13.1 and 12 per cent respectively.
